ABOUT THE SUBJECT

A value chain is another name for a supply chain. A supply chain is a sequence of organizations, their facilities, that are involved in producing and delivering a product or service. In a supply chain, virtually, all of the members serve as, both, customers as well as suppliers. Supply chain management, deals with linking the organization within the Supply Chain in order to meet demand across the chain as efficiently as possible.

We need to understand SCM to meet the challenges of globalization, manage complexities, and inventories needed across the supply chain. Supply chain management is the integration of the activities that procure materials and services, transform them into intermediate goods, and, final products; subsequently delivering them through a distribution system.

Appreciating, that one major way of achieving competiveness is through cost cutting. Hence, a few lectures on , understanding cost break-up and rationalizing the same have been added to the traditional subject of Supply Chain management.
